*** Breaking ** Cornwall Council Abandons Plan for Mayor

  • by Andrew Climo
  • 4 April 20234 April 2023

CornwallLive has just reported that Linda Taylor, Council Leader for the Conservatives has abandoned the attempt to create the position of elected mayor for Cornwall, along the lines already progressed by major cities such as Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham. According to CornwallLive, Cllr Taylor will no longer be seeking a standard ‘Level 3’ localism deal from the Government, and instead will be progressing with a Level 2 (lesser) deal. The move follows broad based rejection of the Mayor for Cornwall concept through public consultation (69% against).
